Lisa Elias Using traditional blacksmithing techniques, Minneapolis metal artist Lisa Elias creates “functional sculptures” for home and garden in an elegant, organic style inspired by the Art Nouveau movement of the early 20th century. Lisa draws on simple, organic forms to create a wide range of objects including lamps, light fixtures, fire screens, fire tools, railings, and items for the kitchen such as towel bars, trivets, pot racks, and paper towel holders. Originally trained as a glassblower, Lisa received her degree in commercial and studio art from the University of Minnesota. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries across the country including the Asheville Art Museum, Ohio Craft Museum, College of St. Catherine, Minnesota Museum of American Art, and University of Minnesota – Katherine Nash Gallery. She has taught workshops at St. Cloud State University, Oxbow School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pilchuk Glass Studio. Lisa recently completed a major public commission as part of the Loring Bikeway Project – 400 feet of fencing for the pedestrian bridge along Interstate Hwy. 94 in Minneapolis. Other major commissions include grills covering the stained glass windows in the Rotunda of the Minneapolis City Hall; a public art bench called “Forged Roots” at University and Raymond Avenues in St. Paul; patio gates and grillwork for Crema Café at 34th St. and Lyndale in Minneapolis; interior grillwork in the lobby bar of the St. Paul Hotel, in St. Paul; and a window grill at The Grand Hand Gallery in St. Paul. In addition to the fabricated items available for sale at The Grand Hand Gallery, we are happy to assist with arranging custom work for your home or business – please call the gallery to discuss.
