Linda Christianson
Linda Christianson

Combining excellence of work with generosity in sharing her knowledge, Linda Christianson exemplifies the ideals of the renowned Minnesota Potters of the upper St. Croix Valley. A busy studio potter and instructor, Linda’s long resume includes everything from a position as a community ed teacher to that of a university professor, from group shows close to home to a solo exhibition in London. Linda’s work has taken her everywhere from Caracas, Venezuela to Gundaroo, Australia, has been reviewed in publications such as Clay Times and Ceramics Monthly, and is represented in several public collections including those of the Weisman Art Museum and the Minnesota Historical Society. The artist has been the recipient of several McKnight Fellowships, a Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship.

Linda likens her utilitarian pots to stage sets. She says, “At rest on a table or in a cupboard, they are visually engaging. Through use they provide access to other activities: gathering food from the garden, cooking, conversation, dining, arrangement of flowers. Like a stage set, the pot has an ability to disappear and then reappear.” Her sturdy, straightforward wood-fired forms are a pleasure to use.

A native of Rice Lake, WI, the artist is a graduate of Hamline University and maintains a studio in rural Chisago County. She is a host potter for the annual St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour.
